Malaria kills seven as it spreads in Unity State

Health authorities in Unity State’s Bentiu hospital have reported seven deaths from malaria last month.

The hospital director, Dr Banen Non, said the deaths arose from the confirmed positive rapid diagnostic tests (RDT).

Dr Non told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the Bentiu hospital recorded several cases of malaria daily since the outbreak in the current rainy season.

“We also receive patients from outside Bentiu and that is why the numbers were high,” he said.

Dr Non reminded of the malaria symptoms as including headache, fever, joint pain and   dizziness.

He lamented the lack of adequate drugs to deal with the outbreak.

Last month, the State Ministry of Health declared the malaria outbreak and confirmed 2,000 infections.
