Malaria deaths rise among displaced children in Wonduruba, Central Equatoria

The head of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Lainya county of South Sudan’s Central Equatoria state reported a rise in malaria deaths among displaced children in Wonduruba and Lainya counties amid shortages of drugs and medical equipment.

Al-Sadig Augustino told Radio Tamazuj more than 10,000 people are living in dire conditions due to shortages of drugs in Wonduruba.

He added that number of children who died from Malaria has rose, saying the hospital in the area cannot accommodate the displaced people and the local host community.

The official pointed out that people are struggling to get clean drinking water. He called on NGOs to intervene to rescue the live of these people.

Fighting between SPLA and SPLA-IO rebels last year preceded attacks by government on Wonduruba town, forcing thousands to flee to the bush.
