Malaria cases have more than doubled in the first two weeks of June in the Bentiu United Nations displaced persons camp and in Bentiu town, the International Organization for Migration said.
IOM said half of all health consultations at their clinics in Bentiu were for malaria in that time frame. They said upper respiratory tract infections were also common.
The group said they have deployed more malaria detection kits and anti-malarial medications. They are also sending more bed nets.
IOM said they also need to build more health clinics because the existing ones are becoming overcrowded amid the upsurge in disease.
The last two years there has been high rates of mortality during the rainy season particularly among children in the Bentiu UN camp due to malnutrition, malaria, and other ailments.
