Malaria cases on the rise in Abyei

Health officials in the disputed region of Abyei said there is a rise in the number of malaria cases in the region, amid a lack of medical personnel.

Abyei’s Health Minister Nyanut Mayen Deng told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the civil hospital is overcrowded with people suffering from malaria yet there are no health personnel to attend to them.

Mayen announced that the ministry had started receiving applications for persons interested in training in nursing, clinical officers, midwifery and lab technicians.

She explained that anyone who holds a South Sudanese Secondary Certificate or an equivalent from neighbouring countries is eligible to apply.
