Malaria and typhoid cause 10 deaths in Damazin Hospital every day

From 10 to 15 people are dying every day in Damazin Hospital in Blue Nile from malaria, typhoid and diarrheal diseases. The hospital is overwhelmed by an influx of patients suffering from these seasonal diseases, Radio Tamazuj has learnt. “There are three things affecting people very much. There is malaria, inflammation, plus diarrhea and also typhoid,” a reliable source told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday. He further said there are not enough beds for the patients to sleep in, pointing out that up to five patients can share one bed, and others bring along with them sleeping mats from their homes. “All the people are affected because food is poor and there are a lot of mosquitoes. There is a death rate of between 10 and 15 daily including both children and elderly people,” said the source. He explained that the health situation in Damazin hospital is “really bad” citing absence of mosquito spray and lack of good food. The anonymous source also said the hospital lacks medicines in local pharmacies, medical equipments and trained medical workers.
