Authorities in Maiwut State have renamed 10 health facilities in various areas in the state, in honour of the country’s current and former leaders.

Authorities in Maiwut State have renamed 10 health facilities in various areas in the state, in honour of the country's current and former leaders.

The State Minister of Information, Baruach Uluch Akolaton, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the decision taken on 25 September to rename some health facilities is aimed at "honouring the country’s current and former politicians and community leaders."

“The proposal to rename the health facilities in the state came from the state minister of health and then the state government approved it,” he said

Maiwut Hospital was changed into Kiir Mayardit Hospital, the state minister said.

Minister Uluch added that the health facility known as "Pagak Primary Healthcare Centre" was renamed Gen. Taban Deng Gai Primary Healthcare Centre.

The health facility named Malou Primary Healthcare Unit was changed into Amb. Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth Primary Healthcare Unit, while Uleng Primary Healthcare Unit was renamed Bol Ruach Rom Primary Healthcare Unit.

Jotome Primary Healthcare Unit was changed into Late Kuach Kang Riar PHCU, while Wunkir health facility was renamed Gen. Ochan Puot Duop Primary Healthcare Unit.

The state minister also confirmed that the Malual health facility was changed into Gen. Lual Kueth Deng Primary Healthcare Unit.  He added that Pinythor Primary Healthcare Unit was renamed Late Chief Puok Gatluak Primary Healthcare Unit.

Uluch pointed out that the Turuw Primary Healthcare Unit was changed into Late Mun Yiech Kolong Primary Healthcare Unit and that Dojo Primary Healthcare Unit was renamed Late Akubur Akikanka Primary Healthcare Unit.

The state government’s decision was widely criticised by social media users.
