The commissioner of Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria state David Otto Remson has issued an order banning all music activities and disco clubs in the area.
The order came following a meeting with young people in Magwi county headquarters on Thursday.
Mr Remson said that entertainment activities are the major contributor to crime there. He has also directed security forces, local chiefs and youth leaders to implement the order.
“For the youth of Magwi County as a whole, our time is to bring out our minds together that is there is no time to waste,” Commissioner Remson said. “No dancing in Magwi county because this is the source of bad agencies of our lives until further.”
The local official urges the communities in his county to shun tribalism and embrace the spirit of unity. “Education cannot wait for anybody I want to tell you the secret of Magwi County we are not Acholi and Madi but we are Magwi. Get untied and start as people of Magwi county and we shall develop Magwi”, he added.
Oyet Simon Robert, a resident of the Magwi area, welcomed the banning saying that the directive will safeguard the security of the minors in the area.
“This issue of banning the disco dance in Magwi County is basically from our government the commissioner himself it is not for bad but for the safety of ourselves,” he said.
“It will safeguard the security here. It is so important for the security to be alert for anything happening in Magwi County,” Robert added.
But Okot David, another resident, believes the youth should be allowed to carry on their entertainment activities during the day.
“As a youth actually, the stopping of night dances and other disco activities at night, if the youth can take their time to gather at day time is okay but at night everybody should be on alert and know the security of the area, “David said.
