Police authorities in the Northern Bahr el Ghazal area say they have arrested a ‘madman’ who used to hide in the bushes in Aweil East and allegedly attacked travelers on the highway.

Word of the attacks by the spread about three weeks ago, prompting police to deploy in the area to pursue the suspected attacker, but without success.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Aweil Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Mareng Deng Akuei confirmed that the man was captured after civilians in the area conducted bush-to-bush searches for him.

“There was a crazy person who used to take a spear in his hand and wait in the bush and when he saw somebody walking he used to attack them with his spear,” he said, accusing the man of injuring several people.

The officer added, “He’s now in the prison of the old county of Wanyjok.”

The police are encouraging citizens to report any crimes that take place in their societies, saying that citizens are partners with security providers.
