The SPLM-IO faction led by former vice president Riek Machar has welcomed the UN Security Council resolution to deploy 4,000 regional troops in South Sudan’s capital, a senior opposition official said.

James Gatdet Dak, Riek Machar’s spokesman, told Radio Tamazuj that the UN decision was in line with their demand to send a regional force to provide security in Juba after clashes erupted between the two warring parties last month.

The opposition official pointed out that the regional protection force will provide a safe atmosphere for South Sudan leaders to implement last August’s peace accord.
