The Deputy Governor of Unity State Mabek Lang has called on the opposition fighters in the state to ‘accept peace,’ saying that his side is ready to make compromises for peace.
Mabek Lang is a member of the SPLM/A-Juba faction and hails from Pariang County in northern Unity State. Other parts of the state are controlled by SPLM/A-IO.
The deputy governor called on the parties to reach a peace agreement as soon as possible. Speaking on the UN radio service today he said, “We are calling upon our brothers who have taken guns against the state to come back and accept peace as we are.”
“Government is actually to negotiate and there has been there a lot of compromise so that peace will come to our people,” he added, pointing out that the people who need peace in Unity State now are the suffering children, mothers and elderly people.
Meanwhile, the official also said that markets are not functioning in the state owing to the impassability of roads due to flooding. He said that also some humanitarian services have been stopped following the most recent bout of fighting last month.
