Maban County Commissioner warns WFP about expired food

The Health Director of the Upper Nile County of Maban, Mayak Malok has said that large quantities of damaged and expired food has been confiscated from the World Food Programme (WFP).

He noted that they have confiscated these foodstuffs since last April, and they have commissioned a committee from the County authorities to follow up on how to dispose of them. They accusing the WFP of not taking the matter seriously.

Director Malok said that it concerns more than five thousand sacks of lentils, corn, maize, milk and many other foodstuffs.

“We seized these items some months ago, but the problem is that the authorities of the WFP didn’t cooperate with us. There are some people who are now eating these foods, and we are afraid of food-poisoning. Yesterday I visited Duro camp and cautioned them that should anybody die, it will be responsibility of the WFP because they are supposed to burn or bury these spoiled food items,” the Commissioner warned.
