Ma’alia tribe welcomes investigation after Abu Karinka clashes

A top Ma’alia tribal leader said they welcome an investigation committee formed to investigate the recent incident that took place in Abu Karinka area in Sudan’s East Darfur State. The investigation committee took oath before the minister of justice two days ago.

Yusuf Ali Hamid, spokesman of the Ma’alia tribe, told Radio Tamazuj that the Ma’alia tribe welcomes the new mediation committee. He called on members of the committee to work hard with impartiality to apprehend to the perpetrators and then bring them to justice.

Yusuf stressed that they welcome justice even if it may lead to conviction of individuals from their side.

Meanwhile, a leader of the Rizeigat tribe Mahmud Musa Madibo expressed reservations with regard to the investigation committee. Madibo told Radio Tamazuj that said they were waiting for the investigation committee to arrive and carry out its task.

He added the investigation should cover all incidents that occurred in Sudan as a whole including Darfur. “Why the government did not investigate the incidents that preceded the recent incidents in Abu Karinka?" he asked.
