Ma’alia-Rizeigat peace committee to present draft agreement this week

A magistrate committee between the feuding Arab tribes Rizeigat and Ma’alia in Merowe town in Sudan’s Northern State has concluded its consultations with the two sides, a tribal leader said.

A magistrate committee between the feuding Arab tribes Rizeigat and Ma’alia in Merowe town in Sudan’s Northern State has concluded its consultations with the two sides, a tribal leader said.

Mohamed Issa Aliu, Chairman of the Shura Council of the Rizeigat Arab tribe in East Darfur state, told Radio Tamazuj that the peace committee is working out a draft agreement that would be presented to the two tribes this week.

Issa said the committee has already received viewpoints of the two parties including the root cause of the conflict and its possible solutions.

The tribal leader stressed that the government will also be fully responsible for the provision of security in East Darfur state whether the two tribe agree or disagree in the Merowe meeting.
