Ma'alia leaders welcome reopening of Ad Daein-Nahud road

Several leaders of the Ma'alia tribe have welcomed a decision taken by the local authorities to reopen the road connecting East Darfur’s capital Ad Daein with An-Nahud town in West Kordofan State.

The road between Ad-Daein and An-Nahud road that passes via Adila area has remained closed since tribal fighting erupted between the Rizeigat and Ma'alia tribes which killed hundreds of people from the two sides.

The Ma'alia tribal leader Zachariah Suleiman told Radio Tamazuj that they welcome the reopening of the road between East Darfur and West Kordofan States.

This comes after the Deputy Governor of East Darfur Mohamed Hassan Berak said in a recent statement to the Sudanese News Centre (SMC) that they are working to reopen the road. Suleiman pointed out that about six MPs from the Ma'alia tribe had attended sittings of the State Legislative Assembly in Ad-Daein town last week for the first time since the conflict.

He explained that it is a step forward in stabilizing security and a sign for restoration of social peace between the two feuding tribes in East Darfur.
