Low supplies at N. Bahr al Ghazal markets

Traders in Northern Bahr al Ghazal say that they are running out of goods to stock the markets in the state, owing to poor road conditions farther south and lack of imports from the north.

Traders in Northern Bahr al Ghazal say that they are running out of goods to stock the markets in the state, owing to poor road conditions farther south and lack of imports from the north.

The area depends on imports from Uganda to the south and Sudan to the north. According to Wol Amuk, chairman of the Aweil chamber of commerce, the number of trucks arriving from Sudan recently has not been enough to supply the markets, while trucks traveling from the south have beeen stuck in mud in Western Equatoria.

He said a 50 kg bag of sugar rose in price 250 SSP to 450 SSP and a 50 kg bag of wheat flour rose from 150 SSP to 270 SSP.
