Authorities in South Sudan’s Bieh State on Wednesday organized a joint rally with the armed opposition faction (SPLM-IO) to sensitize the greater Lou Nuer community on the peace deal.
The state information minister, Peter Nin Tut told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that a government delegation from Juba also attended the event to brief locals on progress in the peace deal implementation.
“Governor Moses Majok of Bieh, Governor Johnson Gony of Akobo, military governor for Bieh, Simon Hoth and a delegation of national ministers, including Yien Oral and John Luk Jok were in Waat to sensitize greater Lou communities on peace and spearhead healing and reconciliation among those in the conflict- affected areas,” he said.
Tut said the rally symbolized the return of peace in greater Lou Nuer areas. “Now there will be free access by the humanitarian agencies to the affected areas,” he stressed.
Tut further said the three governors assured the locals of security in greater Lou Nuer areas and vowed to facilitate voluntary return of refugees.
In September last year, South Sudan’s warring factions signed a revitalized peace agreement to end the country’s violent civil war.
