Long queues for petrol in South Sudan

There were long queues of drivers reportedly waiting for hours to buy petrol in South Sudan on Sunday. Sources said the shortages have come from Juba halting oil production earlier this year after it failed to reach an agreement with Khartoum on shared evenues and accused Sudan of stealing the country’s oil. South Sudan’s minister of information Barnaba Marial Benjamin said the lack of fuel is the fault of high demand and logistical challenges. According to sources in Khartoum, Sudan’s central bank has decided to begin importing additional petrol reserves to meet this year’s demand and said this was especially important in anticipation of a delay in restoring Heglig’s oil pump.
