South Sudan’s Lol State Legislative Assembly has on Monday elected Garang Mawien Mawein as new speaker and deputized by Khamis Dhaya before the state Governor Rizig Hassan Zacharia.
It is the first time for the state legislators of Lol to held their first session yesterday since the creation of new state by presidential decree in 2015.
Malual North Constituency member of parliament Hon. Majang Ngor Kuany confirmed the election of two leaders but said that they were elected by a minority.
“Yes it true, I heard that Hon. Garang Mawien Mawien was elected as a new speaker of Lol state parliament and Khamis Dhaya as his deputy. No, I did not know any other information because I was not there but I was told that only 16 out of 29 members took part in the elections,” Majang told Radio Tamazuj in an interview yesterday.
He pointed out that the cabinet and legislators are being pressured to go to Raja when the security situation is still not stable.
“Am not happy to move to Raja because it is forced on us at the time when the security is not stable and you see members did not attend yesterday’s session,” he added.
The new speaker could not be reached because of poor telecommunications networks.
