Lol state official calls on communities to send more girls to schools to eradicate illiteracy

The minister of information, youth and culture for Lol state Angelo Wol Mawien called on the communities in the state to enrol more girls in schools in order to reduce rate of illiteracy in the society.

He made this comment during an occasion to celebrate top students who performed well in South Sudan examinations results for the year 2015/2016 at Valentino Achak Deng Foundation Secondary school at Marial Baai in Aweil West County.

The event which took place last month was attended by community leaders, county commissioners, parents and representatives from Lol state's ministry of education respectively. 

Valentino Achak Deng Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2006 to create quality educational opportunities in South Sudan, empower war- affected South Sudanese communities by constructing schools, increase access to quality education and create new teacher - training programs.

The school was ranked 3rd in the nationwide examinations results for the year 2015/2016.The minister has also thanked the Government of the United Kingdom for the financial support given to school girls across the country.

Maria Atong student's representative has said that home duties and force marriages are some of problems affect that girl child education in South Sudan.

She called on parents and guardians to give girls an equal opportunity as boys and to stop arranging marriages for their daughters.
