Rizik Zachariah Hassan, governor of newly created Lol State has appointed two county commissioners for Aweil West and North before traveling to the capital Juba on Monday.
Rizik left Aweil town on Friday for Raja, capital of the new state where he announced the appointment of county commissioners and new secretary general of the state government. He returned to Aweil town from Raja on Sunday and left for Juba on Monday, according to local officials in the area.
Rizik appointed Peter Dut Akot as the new Aweil West county commissioner and Garang Bol Ateny as the Aweil North county commissioner.
He is yet to form a cabinet and establish other state institutions.
Aweil West County Commissioner Peter Dut Akot confirmed his appointment on Monday and assured his commitment to working together with the people of the area to support the new governor and President Salva Kiir to implement the peace agreement in order to restore peace and unity of the people.
Dut said he will work with everybody in the area to implement peace and achieve unity.
“My message to our people and I wish I would like the media to convey is a very simple message. I want us to be realistic, cooperative and focus attention on issues which all of us, the people of this state, whether young, old, rich or otherwise, we are all one and the same people with equal rights,” said Dut.
The new county commissioner said he will not work alone because he will not be a commissioner for himself but a commissioner responsible for managing and running affairs for the people of the area.
