Manoon Jok Aleu, a former local government minister in South Sudan’s Lol State has escaped from house arrest on Thursday, a local official said.
He had been placed under house arrest in Raja town after failing to explain how he used an amount of 800,000 South Sudanese Pounds.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, William Wel Deng, the head of the parliamentary committee for information in the state, said: “I want to tell you that Manoon Jok Aleu has escaped. We don’t know where he went.”
“He ran away before the investigation is completed. We don’t know whether he has decided to join the rebels or where, we don’t know,” he added.
Wel, who is a member of the investigation committee formed by the state government, said Manoon was removed from his position last month after he failed to explain how he used a sum of 800,000 SSP.
