Lol's ex-local government minister denies misuse of public funds

Manoon Jok Aleu, a former local government minister in South Sudan’s Lol State has denied reports attributed to some local officials saying that he was placed under house for misappropriation of 800, 000 South Sudan Pounds.

In a statement on Wednesday, Manoon claimed that he was asked by the governor to resign from his position before a dismissal order was issued. He did not say the reason for which he was asked to resign from his position.

“I was asked by Governor Rizig to resign as minister of local government and law enforcement, I resigned by February 2, 2017, and he relieved me by February 4, 2017”,” he wrote.

The former minister further said Governor Rizik asked him to stay in Raja by February 10, 2017 after he was relieved from his position.

“I have asked him whether my stay in Raja has anything to do with detention or house arrest, he denied, while many people within the government asked him the same questions and he rejected. From that period, I have stayed in Raja for over 45 days, taking care of myself, I was responsible for myself and my feeding in my house until March16, 2017,” he said.

“I have decided to leave Raja freely and later I learned that the Governor and his deputy have called the commissioner of Marialbaai County and the Commissioner of Gomjuer West County to stop me,” he added.

The former official who is now in Aweil town pointed out that he is ready to appear before the court to answer any accusations levelled against him.
