Lol governor decides to retain Raja County commissioner

The appointed governor of proposed 'Lol State' Rizig Zacharia Hassan arrived to Raja town last Friday where he announced the appointment of new county commissioners within the state, including the reappointment of the incumbent Raja County commissioner.

Rizig is the former governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State. He was removed by decree on Christmas Eve last December and transferred to the governorship of the new 'Lol State'.

Lol State comprises two counties of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and Raja County of Western Bahr el Ghazal.

Upon his arrival in Raja, Rizig issued a decree on Saturday appointing James Benjamin as commissioner of Raja County, while appointing new commissioners to Aweil North and Aweil East counties.

Radio Tamazuj is yet to confirm the names of the appointees of Aweil North and East counties. Rizig also appointed Al-Tom Ismail as the secretary-general of the government of Lol State.

The chairman of the organizing committee to receive the governor, Wadaa Andel, told Radio Tamazuj the governor was received by a huge crowd of citizen. However, sources who spoke to Radio Tamazuj earlier last week claimed that the governor may not be welcomed by the citizens because they have rejected the proposal to merge Raja County with Aweil North and West.

Andel confirmed also that the governor has traveled onward toward Aweil after appointing the commissioners.
