Traders selling palm oil and Shea butter in Maridi County’s Waida market are complaining of over taxation by the county agricultural officials.
Simon John, one of the traders told Radio Tamazuj that agricultural officials collect 50 SSPs from the traders and this negatively affects his business.
Another trader who identifies as Asumpta said the daily tax of 50 SSP has made it difficult for them to make any profits and she is not able to pay school fees for her children as well as buy food for her family.
However, Beneath Khamis the chairperson of the chamber of commerce in Maridi said it is wrong for business people to be subjected to taxes without the knowledge of the chamber.
He encouraged the traders to report any issues that may be affecting their businesses to the chamber’s office.
