At least one child was killed and three others injured in aerial bombardments that officials in South Sudan’s Maban County are blaming on the Sudanese Air Force.

Maban County Commissioner Luke Saad-allah Deng told Radio Tamazuj that Sudanese planes bombed the village of Khor Tumbak in Upper Nile state starting Friday morning and lasting through Sunday morning.

Most of the estimated 3,000 people living in the village fled to nearby forests, he said, creating a severe humanitarian situation.

“The day before yesterday we were surprised with an aerial bombardment at Khor-Tumbak village,” he said. “We didn’t receive the information early as the area is far from here, until at the evening is when we received people who sustained injuries due to airstrikes.”
