State officials across Sudan say that recent fighting in South Sudan has forced many civilians to resettle in their country. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj and other outlets, local officials across the country say that they are trying to count the number of displaced so they can provide humanitarian access.
Fighting in July displaced around 60,000 people in South Sudan, the United Nations reported on Tuesday.
The numbers of South Sudanese who have fled recent fighting to East Darfur is still unknown the state Governor Issam Mohammed Osman told Radio Tamazuj, but the local Relief Commission has been tasked with giving an estimate.
Osman said that the estimate will help local officials provide humanitarian assistance.
Similarly, the government of Sudan’s White Nile state announced that over 80,000 South Sudanese have fled into their state due to fighting in South Sudan.
The Chairman of the Coordination Committee in White Nile state al Tayab Abdalla said they have distributed food items and tents to the refugees. He pointed that they have provided the items to eight new locations, but said the existing locations cannot host the newly displaced due to their large numbers.
South Darfur state has also received 310 refugees, sources tell Radio Tamazuj.
