Many families in Aweil West County in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr al Ghazal State are reportedly living in hunger due to a lack of sorghum and high prices of essential commodities at the market.
Garang Kuac, County Commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj that the majority of families are facing hunger especially the poor. He further said a local businessman has recently purchased a large quantity of sorghum, saying they intend to distribute it to centres so citizens can buy at affordable prices.
The commissioner revealed that the border trade with Darfur states and South Kordofan could stop at any time as the rainy season begins. He also pointed to the presence of militia supported by the Khartoum government along the border with Northern Bahr al Ghazal.
