Local official accuses Khartoum militia of shelling in Abyei

Commissioner of Alal county in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan have accused a militia belong to Khartoum of shelling his county with mounted guns.

Kelek Kon Lual told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that three bombs fall in the area without any casualties.

“Yesterday around 12:30 am a militia belonging to Khartoum has shelled the Alal county north of Abyei. There were no casualties because the bombs fall outside the area,” he said.

“Three bombs have fallen in the area. Two exploded and one remained unexploded,” Kon added.

He said the situation in Abyei is stable following a peaceful coexistence conference between Misseriya and Ngok Dinka that concluded recently.

He accused the Sudanese authorities of trying to dirupt the process.

Radio Tamazuj was unable to contact the Sudanese side for a comment on the accusations.
