Local authorities in Meiram Locality in Sudan’s West Kordofan State have refused to set up a camp for South Sudanese refugees who cross to the area daily, multiple sources said.
The same sources told Radio Tamazuj that South Sudanese nationals are using temporary shelters at the market and public places in the area, amid heaving rains.
Meanwhile, an employee working for humanitarian affairs who preferred anonymity said that international NGOs working in the area had distributed food and non-food items to nearly 6,000 South Sudanese refugees.
He claimed that the number of South Sudanese citizens who crossed to Meiram Locality stands at 20,000.
The aid worker, however, said that they couldn’t obtain an accurate number because the local authorities refused to establish any refugee camp in the area.
Radio Tamazuj couldn’t reach humanitarian aid officials in the area to comment on the matter.
