Living conditions worsen in S. Kordofan

Residents and internally displaced persons around Kadugli locality in Sudan’s South Kordofan state report deteriorating humanitarian conditions.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Friday, a source in the area said people are experiencing lack of basic services and paralyzed agricultural activities.

“People are currently living in a situation where there were no services like health facilities, education, and clean drinking water,” he said.

Hajar El Dom, Muriny, Gadir and Toti villages have been affected.  About 17000 South Kordofan natives fled from Rumaila, El Saraf, Bitel Kan and Hababah to those areas in 2011 to escape warfare.

The source said farmers lost about 30,000 acres of farmland in SPLM-N held areas since conflict erupted in 2011.

He said now damaged agricultural projects were a source of income for inhabitants and that the affected people have resorted to manual work at the markets to feed their families.

The source held the local authorities responsible for the deteriorating situation.

He urged local leaders to abide by their responsibilities for citizens.
