Residents in Limi-Boma in Yei River State are in need of clean drinking water, local residents tell Radio Tamazuj.
Since the signing of the comprehensive peace agreement in 2005, residents say they have accessed drinking water from running rivers and wells.
Kajo-Keji is situated in the eastern region of South Sudan bordering Uganda.
The poor rainy season has forced residents, including primary school students, to fetch water from nearby rivers, Alice Meling, a resident told Radio Tamazuj.
“The community including the church are still fetching water from the running rivers and local wells. My worry is that the school has a big population but without clean water,” Meling said.
Melting also said that many of the area residents suffer from typhoid and diaharea, and she has appealed to local authorities to look into the situation. Local officials say they are carrying out an assessment and fixing of broken boreholes.
During the swearing in of the Yei River state cabinet earlier this year, Governor David Lokonga warned that any minister who didn’t deliver basic services will be removed.
“The time has come for all of us to make sure that services reach the population and anyone who doesn’t deliver will automatically be removed” Lokonga said.
