Lightning strike kills man, injures six in Eastern Equatoria

A lightning strike killed a 50-year-old man and injured six people at a camp in Hiyalla village of Eastern Equatoria State on Monday, a local official said.

A lightning strike killed a 50-year-old man and injured six people at a camp in Hiyalla village of Eastern Equatoria State on Monday, a local official said.

John Omoli, the Deputy Executive Director of the defunct Torit East County, said a man identified as Attuyuk Omodoro died after being struck by lightning in Hiyalla.

 “It happened yesterday evening [Monday]. A lightning strike during rains killed one person and six people sustained injuries. . They were struck while in Biongi traditional camp in Hiyalla village,” Omoli explained.

Kennedy Ongie Tulio, a local area youth, confirmed the incident.

“It happened at around 4:00 pm when it was drizzling. Some people suspected something was wrong, but all we know is that death is natural,” he said.

He further said most of the injured are receiving treatment at Torit East hospital.
