A 13-year-old girl has died after lightning struck her house at Ngokir village in Tonj East County in South Sudan’s Warrap state earlier this week, according county commissioner Madol Chol.
Madol told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday the incident occurred after heavy rains collapsed hundreds of houses and damaged farms.
“The listening strike resulted in the death of a lady, besides killing of dozens of cows, three goats, and a dog in the area,” he said.
Madol said citizens incurred losses of property and that 16 head of cattle died in the storm. The official predicted that food security would be affected in the county due to the damage caused by rains and floods.
