Legislator denies alleged assault by presidential guards

A South Sudanese legislator purportedly beaten up by presidential guards last month refuted the report on Thursday, saying the incident was coined by anti-government elements.

A South Sudanese legislator purportedly beaten up by presidential guards last month refuted the report on Thursday, saying the incident was coined by anti-government elements.

Arop Madut Arop said anti-government elements coined the incident to portray the current government as unfit to remain in office.

“The story was apparently coined by the anti-government elements that are out for a regime change,” said Arop in an email extended to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday.

Arop Madut Arop, who is a renowned author and veteran journalist, is currently representing Abyei area in South Sudan’s National Legislative Assembly.
