A national lawmaker representing Rubkona Constituency in South Sudan’s Northern Liech State has accused the state governor of allegedly failing to provide basic services for citizens.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Jibril Tap Gatjiek claimed the leadership of Dr. Joseph Nguen Monytuil, has failed to provide services to citizens in the state, especially in Rubkona County.
He urged President Salva Kiir to remove Monytuil for failure to deliver services since 2013.
Lam Tungwar, the state information minister, however, downplayed the lawmaker’s claims, accusing him of intentions to pass his own personal agenda and create strife among the state's communities.
He said state government led by Monytuil had served its citizens.
On his part, state political adviser, Dictor Chutier Koriom described the remarks attributed to the lawmaker as “baseless” and “unfounded”.
He said the state has witnessed relative development despite difficulties during the conflict. "We have to preach peace instead of throwing blames without giving peace a chance and then judge whether there is tangible development or not," said Koriom.
Northern Liech State is located in South Sudan’s Unity region.
