The parliament of South Sudan’s proposed Latjor state which is carved from Upper Nile have selected their speaker and the deputy.
The move follows the appointment of deputy governor, advisors, cabinet ministers, and county commissioners, the latest step towards establishing institutions in the area.
Latjor state information minister Peter Hoth Tuach said Chuol Dep Kier has been the selected as the speaker of the local parliament and Simon Kor as deputy speaker.
The speaker and the deputy were unanimously selected by the members and took oath of office before the governor of the state, Peter Lam Both, according to Peter.
The total membership of the house, according to the presidential establishment order, is 21 members.
13 members going to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement faction loyal to President Salva Kiir and 7 other seats left to be occupied by nominees of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in Opposition under the first vice president designate, Riek Machar.
One member was given to United Sudan African party as representative of other political parties in the state.
