Land dispute between Northern Liech and Ruweng leaves 15 dead

Lam Tungwar, Minister of Information in Northern Liech, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that about 15 people were confirmed dead over a land dispute between the two states.

He accused elements from Ruweng State of attacking people who were making charcoal due to land disputes at Kaljak area. The local official called on the people of the two states to calm down the situation, saying the issue will be solved by the two governments.

For his part, Samuel Angok, Minister of Information in Ruweng State, denied knowledge of the incident at Kaljak area.

He pointed out that the people of the two states know their borders and that they are still waiting for the border demarcation committee set up by President Kiir to come and demarcate boundaries of the newly created states.

Cattle raid in Northern Liech

Separate, Minister Lam Tunwar said that at least five people were killed in separate incidents of cattle raiding in Northern Liech State on Wednesday and Sunday.

He pointed out that the two attacks took place in Rubkona, Mayom and Koch areas last week.
