The deceased teacher identified as Laat Chol Machar is said to have been riding a motorcycle on his way to Lassalle Boys Secondary School in Rumbek town where he worked when he was knocked by the truck between La Salle and Loreto secondary schools at 7 am on Monday.
The Rumbek traffic police investigator, Daniel Awet Deng, told Radio Tamazuj, “The truck was coming from Bahr el Ghazal and going to Juba, while the teacher was riding a motorcycle going to school at 7 am and this is where the truck and the motorcycle collided  killing the teacher between La Salle boys and Loreto secondary school.”
He said the body of the deceased was taken to Rumbek Hospital for postmortem and later handed over to the family for burial in Akot Payam and that the truck driver has been arrested.
“The teacher was taken to hospital and later succumbed to his injuries in Rumbek hospital. The postmortem examinations were done and the body of the late teacher Laat Chol Machar was handed to the family and it was taken to Akot Payam for burial,” Deng said.
The paramount chief of Akot Payam of Rumbek East County, Sultan Mathiang Dut Malual, confirmed the incident and said yesterday (Tuesday) they were transporting the body of the deceased for burial.
“The teacher who was knocked dead by a truck on Monday was from the Akot community and we are now in the process of taking the body to Akot Payam for burial together with his family,” Chief Malual said. “We heard that the truck driver who killed him has been arrested and is in prison.
