Lakes State police in collaboration with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have held a one week workshop on police code of conduct, investigative skills and gender based violence, targeting officers and non-commissioned officers.

State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Samuel Wel Maciek said the workshop will strengthen the police to maintain law and order in the state as the state is facing insecurity. He urged the participants to fulfill what they have acquired in the workshop.

The state acting commissioner of police Azuma Mangar told police officers to apply what they have gained in the workshop, stressing that the role of police is to protect civilians.

In a separate news development, Rumbek Youth Union elected David Juma as the new chairperson of the union with 39 votes out of 75 against his rival Marial Akec.

Addressing the participants on the occasion, the governor’s adviser on security affairs Marial Amuom Malek described the election as fair and free, calling on youth to maintain peace and reconciliation among the state citizens.

The newly elected chairperson of Rumbek youth union David Juma said he will work closely with the state government and the general public to bring peace and stability to the people of Lakes state. David thanked the electoral committee for the “fair process” of the election.
