Gunmen clashed with security forces in the Maper area of Lakes State’s Rumbek North County on Sunday, resulting in several civilians killed.
The State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, Jok Ayoum Majak, told Radio Miraya that the gunmen attacked the county headquarters and that multiple homes were burned.
“According to the information we got from the commissioner, he said they have killed many, many women,” Majak said. “They found bodies of women on the ground in Rumbek North, the Headquarter where they came attacked and the repulsed people. We have not yet got the full details.”
He said the fighting is continuing and that authorities have called an emergency security meeting in hopes of mobilizing reinforcements to quell the violence.
