The governor of Lakes State, Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor, on Monday urged the Muslim community to pray for sustainable peace and stability.
The governor made the remarks during the Eid al Fitr celebrations in Rumbek Freedom Square on Monday.
“Today is a very big day for all Muslim communities in Rumbek, Lakes State, and the world at large. South Sudan is a beautiful nation or country without religious discrimination,” Governor Tueny said. “Every human being, whether Muslim or Christian, needs peace and without peace, life will be difficult for us.”
“Here in Rumbek, we want peace whether you are a businessman, cattle keeper or farmer. We want peace,” he added.
The governor urged the celebrants to pray to God so that citizens of South Sudan and Africa live in peace.
For his part, the mayor of Rumbek Municipality, Peter Maliab Chieny, urged the Muslim community in Rumbek to stand with the governor of Lakes State in maintaining peace and stability.
“Let us come together to support peaceful coexistence and let us stand together with our governor of Lakes State who is a man of peace and stability,” Mayor Maliab said.
He said the appointment of Governor Tueny, there were a lot of conflicts in the state.
The secretary-general of the Islamic Council in Lakes State, Jacob Maker Majak, appreciated the governor for stabilizing security, bringing peace and stability and for standing with the Muslim community during the Eid al Fitr celebrations.
