The governor of Lakes State on Monday presided over the swearing-in of the new state ministers of labour and public service and information and communication and the commissioner of Rumbek of North County.
The three officials were sworn in by Lakes State High Court Judge Mabeny Gabriel Kau at the state secretariat general in Rumbek.
Governor Rin Tueny Mabor relieved Jok Ayom Majak and appointed Chol David Majuec as minister of labour and public service. Samuel Maker Mading was also relieved and replaced by SPLM’s Paul Chabiet Ayang as minister of information and communication. Former Rumbek North County Commissioner Arop Kumbai Dhelbeny was replaced by Mabor Deng.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Tueny urged the newly appointed officials to serve diligently despite existing challenges.
“The digital world needs people like you. You did not come out of the blue because to recommend a person to be appointed a minister is a process and comes through your community and your colleagues here,” he said. “I got you through these people and you have very huge support from the people, especially the young ones. I fired Jok Ayom Majak because he was lobbying for my position of governorship and he did not come and tell me that he wants to be a governor.”
“I told him if you want the governorship, then you come to me and if you prove that you can take over from me, then I will recommend you,” Gen. Tueny added.
He urged the members of the cabinet to be faithful.
For his part, Lakes States Deputy Governor Poth Madit Dut welcomed the new appointees to the cabinet and said they were well qualified for the task ahead.
“Without any element of flattery, this is a very good step toward good governance. We know good governance has so many attributes and one of them is the quality of cadres employed to discharge their duties and I am sure these two ministers qualify in that category and the decision is wise,” he said. “We strive to provide good governance in Lakes State and that is why we assembled and you are welcome to support the team.”
Madit urged the new ministers to work collaboratively with their colleagues.
“We all know the government is formed by parties to the agreement but we have chosen, as a government in Lakes State, not to focus much on politics,” he said. “Politics will eventually start during the scheduled elections and we will follow our political parties.”
Meanwhile, the paramount chief of Malueth Payam in Rumbek North County, Mathiang Ater Chier, commended the governor for appointing a new commissioner in Rumbek North County and said it will bring stability there.
