The authorities in Lakes State on Tuesday executed a suspected murderer, Kucjo Tuor, by firing squad after he allegedly killed a man who committed adultery with his wife in Rumbek town, officials confirmed.

Tuor who is said to have been a soldier at the rank of sergeant hailed from the Beli community in Wulu County. He was executed at 2:30 pm on Tuesday in the Malith suburb of Rumbek town.

The Lakes State police spokesperson, Major Elijah Mabor Makuac, confirmed the execution by firing squad and said it was in line with the resolutions of the communities in the state regarding such cases.

“It was something that happened yesterday (Tuesday) at 2:30 pm when a man at the rank of sergeant killed his colleague in the Malith residential area. The suspect (murderer) was captured and it was found that the dispute was over a woman,” he said. “He was caught yesterday and judged using Resolution 51 of Lakes State and everything now is finished.”

“According to the Resolution 51 of the people of Lakes State, if you kill a person, you must also be killed. If someone wrongs you, you report to the police station instead of taking the law into your own hands,” Maj. Mabor explained.

The commissioner of Wulu County, Jima Diffala Rejab, also confirmed the execution of Sergeant Tuor by firing squad and said the deceased hailed from his county.

“He was killed by the security forces for killing another man yesterday (Tuesday) and it happened in Rumbek Town and not here in Wulu County,” he said.

On 19 May 2022, three men, Marial Agok, Maken Dut, and Marual Deng, were also executed by firing squad in the Arielteen area a few kilometers from the Yirol West County headquarters.

Some of the relatives of those executed have since said that they did not get a fair court hearing and that they were extra judicially executed based on hearsay and not concrete evidence.
