Lakes herders’ cattle accused of trampling farms in Wau County

Farmers in Wau County of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state have complained that armed cattle pastoralists from Warrap and Lakes states have crossed onto their farms.

Farmers in Wau County of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state have complained that armed cattle pastoralists from Warrap and Lakes states have crossed onto their farms.

The farmers told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the farms that have been trampled by the pastoralists are in Angoga, Murukanda and other farms around Busari.

They said also that the armed pastoralists have beaten one farmer and stolen his motorbike. They said the farmer has reported the incident to the Busari chief.

The newly appointed governor of Wau state says that there was an agreement for the pastoralists from Warrap and Lakes states not to enter Wau County but the dry season forced them to cross in February.

Separately, citizens continued to report alleged incidents of harrassment by SPLA forces in Busari area.
