Operations of traditional courts in South Sudan’s Lakes State have been suspended in order to enable local residents to concentrate on agriculture during the cultivation season.

Operations of traditional courts in South Sudan’s Lakes State have been suspended in order to enable local residents to concentrate on agriculture during the cultivation season.

Barnaba Mayor, the secretary general of the defunct Eastern Lakes State, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that all traditional courts would remain closed until the crop harvest season.

Mayor said the move is aimed at boosting this year’s food production. “We directed all the executive directors to implement the ban. We do this annually and it is aimed at giving our people time to cultivate,” he explained.

The local official urged court officials to abide by the new directive.
