A state government advisor who was previously reported to have been killed in an ambush in or near Lakes State on Thursday has actually survived, according to the government spokesman.

Sources have offered conflicting details about the ambush. Lakes State Information Minister Dhieu Wol told Radio Tamuzuj today that Commissioner of Rumbek North County Abraham Maloth Marier was killed on the spot of the ambush by unknown gunmen.

However, a relative of the commissioner on Friday said that the commissioner managed to flee the initial shooting but was found to have died of exhaustion after running non-stop to escape.

Additionally, the state minister denied that any soldiers were traveling with the commissioner, contradicting another source who told Radio Tamazuj that several bodyguards were also killed.

Poth Domic, a female advisor in the state government on border affairs, actually survived the attack, the information minister said. This contradicts earlier reports that she was killed.

Asked whether rebels had carried out that ambush, Dhieu said that they did not have any information.
