Lakes: 3 commissioners sworn-in

The commissioners for Wulu, Cueibet and Yirol West counties of Lakes State have been sworn-in to office.

The two SPLM-IO commissioners and their SSOA counterpart were sworn-in on Tuesday by Governor Rin Tueny Mabor at the Lakes State General Secretariat in Rumbek.

The Governor welcomed them and urged the commissioners to be diligent.

“Our first mission is peace in the eight counties, all the payams and the bomas,” he said.

“It is our responsibility to implement the Revitalized Peace Agreement, and it must be implemented because that is what brings people of South Sudan together,” he added.

He said that there would be no way forward without the peace agreement. “The agreement holds till December, when we go to the elections and the transition ends,” said the Governor.

Former Deputy National Minister for Higher Education Gabriel Kuc Abiei told the commissioners to work as a team once they are in government.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Wulu Commissioner Justin Majok Manyiel thanked the Governor and President Salva Kiir for the appointments.

He acknowledged that the appointments were not based on party affiliation but the community interest.

Manyiel said their priorities would be to handle the fragile economic situation, peace, development and prosperity in Lakes State.
