Lagawa teachers intend to submit mass resignations if the West Kordofan government transfers them to other areas in the state, an active member of the town’s protest committee said.

On 4 February, Lagawa citizens staged protests against the transfer orders given to some government employees because they had been participating in sit-in protests in the town.

For about three months, local youths have been occupying the Lagawa town square demanding the authorities to improve basic services to citizens or they will boycott the elections scheduled for April.

Ali Musa, an employee at Lagawa Hospital, told Radio Tamazuj that the transferred teachers are now collecting signatures in order to present mass resignations in case the authorities insist on its transfer orders.

Musa, who is also director of the HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Centre in Lagawa, said he was ordered by the health ministry’s headquarters not to work and that his January salary was also withheld for the same reason.

Ali previously identified the transferred teachers as Mohamed Tahir, Mohamed Ali Jame, Ghada, Mohamed Ahmed, Bakhit El Tom, Fatima Deifallah, Jawahir Khalid, Abdel-Azim Fadul Nasir, and Fatima El Hassan.
