Citizens of Lagawa in Sudan’s West Kordofan state signed a peace agreement allowing free movement between government and the SPLA-North areas in South Kordofan, a local leader said.

Tutu Abdullah, the emir of Western Nuba Mountains, told Radio Tamazuj that trade and movement of vehicles between government and rebel-held areas has already begun. He said the peace agreement will contribute toward restoration of stability in the area.

Tutu called on the local authorities in West Kordofan to focus on development projects instead of war.

Separately, he said local residents signed a second charter of peace and reconciliation following inter-communal strife in the area.
