Lagawa citizens oppose annexation to West Kordofan

Discontent is reported among citizens of Lagawa in South Kordofan State over their potential annexation to the newly re-established state of West Kordofan.

The government-held town is located near in the western region of the Nuba Mountains, parts of which are occupied by the SPLA-North rebels.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, a citizen of Lagawa who preferred not to be named affirmed that many people wish to remain part of South Kordofan State, and renewed their rejection of the annexation of their area to West Kordofan State, despite the appointment as governor of Ahmed Khamis Bakheet, who hails from Lagawa.

Many observers and analysts say that the restoration of West Kordofan by presidential decree is being opposed by the Nuba and Hamar.
